UHMWPE Fabric Features
Outstanding Mechanical Properties
Strength and Modulus: The specific strength of UHMWPE fibers is 15 times that of steel and 40% higher than that of aramid fibers. The breaking strength can reach 43 cN/dtex, with a modulus of 1800 cN/dtex. It also exhibits excellent low-temperature performance.
Abrasion Resistance: It has the highest abrasion resistance among plastics, being 4 times that of nylon and 7-10 times that of carbon steel. The friction coefficient is as low as 0.1, making it suitable for high-friction scenarios.
Chemical Stability: It is resistant to acids and alkalis, corrosion, and ultraviolet light.
Lightweight and Multifunctional
With a density of only 0.97-0.98 g/cm³, it can float on water and is 1/3 lighter than aramid fibers, making it suitable for lightweight designs. It also features self-lubricating properties, impact resistance, and biocompatibility (FDA certified).
UHMWPE Fabric Applications
Protective Equipment
Ballistic Materials: Used in bulletproof vests, helmets, and armor plating for vehicles, achieving lightweight ballistic protection through a UD (unidirectional) non-woven structure with fibers laminated at 90° orientation, reducing the "backface deformation" phenomenon.
Industrial Protection: Cut-resistant gloves (EN388 Level 5) and abrasion-resistant conveyor belt linings designed to withstand extreme environments in mining, chemical, and other industries.
Marine and Aerospace
Ropes and Fishing Nets: Ultra-strong PE fiber ropes are used in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and deep-sea mooring applications, resistant to seawater corrosion and marine biofouling.
Aerospace Components: Such as parachute cords for the Shenzhou spacecraft, requiring high-modulus fibers to ensure impact resistance and lightweight performance.
Medical and Civil Applications
Artificial Joints: Exhibiting excellent biocompatibility but requiring ultra-high purity (impurities ≤ 0.1%), currently relying on imports.
Sports Equipment: Used in items such as canvas and skis, leveraging low friction and high toughness to enhance performance.
